This episode’s guest is one of the most wholesome guests I’ve had on Fresh is the Word, the award-winning children’s author and illustrator DJ Corchin. With projects like Half-Cat, Do You Speak Fish?, A Thousand NO’s, and the I Feel… Children’s Book Series, among many other titles, DJ Corchin’s children’s book bring a powerful message in simple terms that also connects with the adult reader. We talked about his latest projects and how he breaks down his day creatively, how he got into creating children’s book, how to effectively write a children’s books, the mental and behavioral lessons, plans for the future, how children’s books differ now than when we were kids, collaborating with Dan Dougherty, and the 13th Chair.

This episode’s pick is the new comic from Sam Humphries and one of my favorite artists Jen Bartel titled Blackbird. It’s the story of Nina Rodriguez and her believes that this magical word ruled by ruthless cabals exists within the veneer of Los Angeles, but everybody thinks she’s crazy. Jen Bartel’s artwork is always incredible and a wonderful cat shows up at the end of issue #1.
