This episode’s guest is Michigan-based comic book artist and writer K. Lynn Smith. This week, Smith along with Dirk Manning, launched the Kickstarter campaign for the six issue superhero graphic novel HOPE they co-created. Smith was known for her previous comic, the western Plume, that garnered much acclaimed after its web comic beginnings.
During our conversation, we talked about the HOPE Kickstarter and the story behind doing a superhero comic, her beginnings as an artist and writer, turning her work into a job, the importance of keeping up her network with other creatives, what she’s learned doing comics, the role of women in the comic book industry, and working comic cons.
