Hosted by music/pop culture journalist Kelly “K-Fresh” Frazier, Fresh is the Word aims to tell the stories from a variety of different voices including women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community through the artistic lens of pop culture. Joined by comic creators, authors, actors, comedians, photographers, sex workers, scientists, athletes, and even other podcasters, we talk about many topics including overcoming creative obstacles, representation in the arts, gender and sexuality issues, LGBTQ issues, and other topics adjacent to lifestyle and pop culture.
The guest for this episode is global DJ, cultural ambassador, foodie and pop culture preserver, and Rock Steady Crew member, Skeme Richards, and you can read and listen to all his experiences online at his Nostalgia King website. He recently dropped a new vinyl only (NO DIGITAL) 7″ for “Rock Latin Steady” b/w “Bimbo To The Beat” via RBMBoots that sold out quickly.
During our conversation, we talked about all his experiences traveling the world as a DJ and the types of relationships he has been able to form. We also talk about what it means to be a DJ during a pandemic and some advice about what other DJs can do during this time when the whole event industry is on lockdown. Plus, we take a dive into his past and talk about first becoming a DJ as a kid and eventually joining the legendary Rock Steady Crew.
