EPISODE #76: MACKENZIE NICOLE – IN THIS EPISODE:
This week’s guest is a native to Kansas City, Missouri, singer/songwriter and first artist on Strange Music’s new pop imprint Strange Main, Mackenzie Nicole. After a few years of popping up on features on Strange Music label boss Tech N9ne’s various projects, Mackenzie Nicole is here with her debut album The Edge, in stores April 13th. During our interview, the 18-year-old classically trained vocalist talked about what went into the making of The Edge and growing up with the music industry being so prevalent in her life. We also talk about the unique midwest aesthetic when it comes to music artists and the power of the voice of the youth.
Her recommendation for someone that could be interviewed for Fresh is the Word was Tech N9ne and we go into some great stories why.
THE FRESH PICK OF THE WEEK:
This episode’s pick is the Ontario, Canada based singer/songwriter Nicole Dollanganger’s teaser for her new album Heart Shaped Bed. After first catching wind of her back in 2015 with her album Natural Born Losers, I was instantly blown away by her. To best describe her, she sounds like she’s singing dark, post-apocalyptic, beautiful lullabies. She just released five songs from her new album and it looks like the rest we come out later this summer.
