EPISODE #89: B.J. MENDELSON – IN THIS EPISODE:
This week’s guest is author, speaker, and comic book writer B.J. Mendelson. He gained notoriety over his humorous yet engaging books Social Media Is Bullshit and Privacy: And How to Get It Back (you can take a guess at what they are about). During our interview, we talk his comic books A National Story of Minor Significance and Vengeance, Nevada and the lessons that come with it about the self-help and mental health, diving into the world of privacy and social media, connecting with your audience, and pro wrestling.
Each episode, the guest is asked to suggest someone from their life/career that should be on Fresh is the Word that would have good stories. B.J. Mendelson chose stand-up comedian, model, actress, writer, and podcast host Rosie Tran (@FunnyRosie).
THE FRESH PICK OF THE WEEK:
This episode’s pick is the comic book We Are The Danger released via Black Mask Studios. I’m totally a sucker for a good music story in the comic book world. The comic starts off with Julie Malliari, the new girl in her high school just entering her senior year. Things are not starting off well like a lot of high school stories do until she meets Tabitha and they end up becoming friends and starting a band. Written and illustrated by Fabian Lelay, there is an authenticity with We Are The Danger with those wide-eyed feelings any music lover had when they were young and everything is a new horizon. The comic is also very vivid in its look with help from artist Claudia Aguirre. I’m a firm believer that you can’t present a music story without the whole package and We Are The Danger #1 sets the mood and visuals for a topic that reminds us about the power of music.
