The guest for this episode is Fernanda Lira, vocalist and bassist of the newly formed Brazilian/Dutch death metal unit Crypta. Formed in June 2019, Lira along with Luana Dametto on drums (both former members of the thrash band Nervosa), with guitarists Sonia Anubis (Cobra Spell, Ex-Burning Witches) and Tainá Bergamaschi (Ex-Hagbard), started their journey together that would result in their debut album Echoes of the Soul, release in June 2021 via Napalm Records. During my chat with Fernanda, we talked about her transition from Nervosa to Crypta, along with the creation of the new band into their debut offering Echoes of the Soul. We also touch on the culture and society of the part of Brazil she comes from, along with being a role model for women who want to become a metal artist.
For this episode, we are talking about the debut album from UK Alt-Metal band Vexed titled Culling Culture, released on May 21, 2021 via Napalm Records. Joining me for this episode is the band’s lead vocalist Megan Targett. After dropping a pair of brutal singles in 2019, “Elite” ft. CJ McMahon of Thy Art Is Murder and “Dominate”, the Hertfordshire foursome made enough noise to link up with Napalm Records for the release of their debut album. With Culling Culture, the band dives into topics of hate and anger that is so prevalent in today’s society as a way to show that people dealing with any sort of struggles in their lives are not alone and they can prevail.
The guests for this episode are members of the Finnish melodic death/doom metal band Mariana’s Rest, vocalist Jaakko Mäntymaa and guitarist Nico Mänttäri. As they were still trying to find their sound, they feel like they are finally at that point with their newest album Fata Morgana, out now via Napalm Records. This album, which takes a journey into the realms of isolation, took on a new meaning as the band and the whole world went into quarantine as a global pandemic spread. During our conversation, we talked about the making of Fata Morgana and how this album represents a monumental landmark creatively for the band, along with diving into the culture of their homeland Finland and much more.
The guest for this episode is Prika Amaral, co-founder and guitarist of all-women thrash metal band NERVOSA. They have a new album Perpetual Chaos available now via Napalm Records. Originating in Brazil, Nervosa has a whole new line-up – featuring Prika along talented new members Diva Satanica on vocals, Mia Wallace on bass, and Eleni Nota on drums – all hailing from various parts of Europe. Nervosa has a series of videos on YouTube (shown below) to get everyone up to speed and introduce you to the new members. During our chat, we talk about the new album with a new lineup, being a role model to young women, and the realities living in Brazil, along with so much more.
The guest for this episode is Richard Sjunnesson, vocalist of the Swedish melodic death metal band The Unguided, and they just released their new full-length album Father Shadow via Napalm Records. We get into how the band functions, fine tuning their method of operation of writing and recording the new album after a history of lineup changes and The Unguided being birthed out of Richard and Roger Sjunnesson’s previous band Sonic Syndicate. With Father Shadow, The Unguided go back to their harder roots blurring the lines between a melodic death metal and metalcore sound. And for a treat to their old fans, they even did cover versions of their own classic Sonic Syndicate tracks “Jailbreak”, “Denied” and “Jack of Diamonds”.
The guest for this episode is Melissa Bonny, vocalist of the symphonic metal band Ad Infinitum, who just released their debut album Chapter 1: Monarchy on April 3rd via Napalm Records. Melissa is also the lead singer of the trance metal band Rage Of Light, and most importantly, we share the same birthday on January 23rd!
